What colors are you having?

Is this a Chicago thing? Everytime a woman asks me about my wedding plans, I get the question, “So what are your wedding colors?” Really! I have probably been asked that two dozen times.

When I said that I hadn’t decided, I was offered up the suggestion of pastels — “They will look so good in May!”, I politely smiled while I was thinking NO WAY!

For most normal brides, it wouldn’t be such a big deal. I, on the otherhand, have spent HOURS agonizing on picking said colors. Originally, I wanted to pick a color that works with gold. Then, I found my venue. It has these amazing art deco chandliers from the 1920’s.

Silver became my accent color. Our venue also has complimentary sterling silver chargers. I plan to use sterling silver table card frames as well.

A long time Steel Magnolias fan, I’ve always modified the line from Julia Roberts to say, “Red is my signature color.” (If you haven’t seen the movie, she says that pink is her signature color. Sound like my colors are picked, right?

But then, I chatted with my friend A., a professional event planner. She used to plan weddings– some with six figure budgets. I told her my situation (silver is in, like red). Her response, “Well, it is very common.” sent me back to the drawing board. If there is one thing that I’m not, it is the type of person that likes to be like everyone else!

I have spent weeks looking at color schemes. Trips to the paint store were made to find a color combination. No luck.

Then, I saw the collector’s edition of Martha Stewart weddings showed a monochromatic design… and I love it!

My plan is now to do a monochromatic design in the color of scarlett.

My table linens– gorgeous metallic scarlett pintuck

My fabulous chivari chairs– silver

Napkin options. Napkins will be sitting on a sterling silver charger.

I need opinions!! PLEASE!!!

Do you know of any companies that allow you to print your own design on [cocktail/paper] napkins? My computer-savvy fiancé created a Hebrew monogram for us, and I\’d be thrilled to use it on napkins! Yay for diy men! 🙂 Thanks!
