My Current Obsession: Backpacks

My obsession with backpacks started last year.  These backpacks, which have nothing to do with camping (or glamping), are the perfect alternative when you need to carry more than you can squeeze into a crossbody.

Much to the chagrin of my sister-in-law, I bought two last year and have been wearing them on a semi-regular basis. I was starting to feel semi-conscious of my backpack obsession and then I spotted this Chanel bricolage backpack on the last page of VogueA little over two years since the launch of the $39,000 backpack by the Row, this is going to be the year of the backpack.

Filling in the Gaps for Fall/ Winter

I always consider shopping this time of the year an enjoyable challenge   Instead of seeking out complete looks,  I am in search of a few pieces that will complete my existing wardrobe.  Right now, I am seeking out these five pieces to finish out the Fall / Winter 2013 season.

Anthropologie New Light Dress
My lace obsession has been going strong for the past few years.  I am not a big Anthropologie wearer (I always think of one of my brides that wore the brand religiously) but this dress is too cute not to pass up.  I could use a little color since I have bought nothing but black this season.

Comme des Garçons ‘Large’ Classic Pouch
While I already have a black and gold pouch by Marc by Marc Jacobs, I love the color.  I think the pouch has the potential of becoming a new staple in every woman’s wardrobe.  It is so easy to throw a pouch in your tote and then take it out for the evening.

Zara Masculine Studio Overcoat
It is surprising how few high street brands offered a pastel coat this season.  It’s everywhere in the designer world but I really want something under the $500 mark.  My only problem with the coat is that I am pretty sure I am going to have to spend the cost of the coat at my tailor. Sigh. The struggles with being under five feet continue.

Top Shop Leather A Line Skirt from the Kate Bosworth Collection
I have always loved leather.  While I thought that I could get by with just one leather skirt this season, I swooned when I saw this A-line skirt in Lucky Magazine.  It’s still not in the stores but I am going to order online.  It’ll go perfectly with my poofy sleeved Valentino sweater from a few seasons ago.

Aldo Rise by Preen Fanni Cut-out Shootie
Black and gold is everywhere so my contrary self has been yearning for some black and silver. The Aldo Preen collaboration is small but this boot fits the bill.  I love the hardware and think it will look good with a number of skirts and dresses already in my wardrobe.

I’m a Lucky Magazine Contributor!

I can’t say how much I enjoy sharing my thoughts on everything from books, to bridal events, to beauty tips with my ‘Bee’ readers, it’s so much fun to show you what I am currently loving and obsessed with! Now, I know in the past I’ve confessed my not-so-private adoration for magazines, and recently I’ve taken this love to the next level by becoming a Lucky Magazine Contributor! I couldn’t be more excited. It’s amazing to be a part of a ‘community’ with so many fabulous people sharing so many of their fabulous ideas. Check me out in the Lucky Community here, and keep your eyes peeled for more posts to come from yours truly!

Bloomingdale’s has the right idea with their “Get Fest Ready” fashion show, on March 21st, styled by celebrity stylist Jacqueline Rezak of Rad and Refined. Inspired by music festival chic, get the low-down on the trends that are bringing the heat this Summer so you can steal the show at the hottest festivals like Bonaroo, Coachella and Chicago’s very own Lollapalooza. The 85th Annual Academy Awards: Who Wore What?

The high point of award’s season, the stars brought the fashion, with a capital “F” to the Oscars this past Sunday evening. Below are my top five favorite looks of the night. Do you agree with me? Did these stars shine the brightest, or in your opinion, fall short of perfection? Tell me what you think in the comments below!

Best Actress nominee (and winner!!) Jennifer Lawrence was the picture of perfection in her Dior Haute Couture gown. Complimenting the high drama of the dress with a simple Chopard necklace down her back, I nearly died for this look!

Have you ever seen Charlize Theron in a look she doesn’t completely own?! I mean, that pixie cut is the best I’ve seen in long time. In a Dior couture structured gown and Harry Winston jewelry, Theron was a vision in white.

Pardon me a moment while I audibly gasp. Channeling “Old Hollywood Glamour”, in the words of Jessica Chastain herself, the Zero Dark Thirty star glimmered in this intricate Armani Prive gown. Between the movie star waves, bold red lip, and Harry Winston bracelet, Chastain can do no wrong.

Is that the Chrysler Building? No, just a statuesque Naomi Watts KILLING it in this metallic Armani Prive gem. Metallic everything is huge this spring, so this is not the last you’ve seen of this look.

First time Oscar attendee, Kerry Washington, hit the red carpet in a coral Miu Miu embellished gown and Fred Leighton ring. Complimenting her caramel complexion so well, Washington was a standout in this ensemble.

Glam Night…I Mean Date Night

Having a signature go-to scent is a must. Whether you’re into something fruity, flowery or airy fresh, you need that one perfume bottle that stands the test of time! I recently received a bottle of Reem Acra Eau de Parfume and have fallen head over heels. Think of a lush, warm, woody fragrance, that will be perfect from running errands to the evening out.

I was so inspired I even created an entire date night look around my new bottle! I can’t get enough of the jewel tones in this look. Complete with a pulled back sock-bun, all I can say is TGIF!

Golden Globes Fashion

Congratulations to all of the winners!  But really, I want to talk about the fashion.

J’adore Jennifer Chastain but not in her Calvin Klein Collection gown.  I’m also not loving Anne Hathaway in Chanel.  The dress is wearing her, she is not wearing the dress.

I love red and both of these leading ladies looked marvelous: Claire Danes in Versace and Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture.

You know that the stylist that put Halle Berry in this Versace gown was fired.  But I do appreciate that Tina Fey played it safe in L’Wren Scott.

Both of these ladies stole the show by looking absolutely marvelous: Jessica Alba in Oscar de la Renta and Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen.

Both Amy Adams in Marchesa  and Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad looked sweet.  But haven’t we seen Amy’s look before?  I don’t want to be negative and call it tired but I do this Jennifer’s dress was a bit more original.

I love the long sleeves!  Julianne Moore in Tom Ford was good but not nearly as amazing as Naomi Watts in Zac Posen.

Any other favorites?

Neiman Marcus + Target Holiday Collection is genius!

Today was the big day for the Target and Neiman Marcus Collection! I was not disappointed.  I wrote about the collection in late October and it really lived up to my expectations.

I updated my Pinterest board with the winners and losers of the collection.  Overall, I would say that the entire collection is AMAZING. I really wish that I could have bought it all…although I came very close!

Below are  three of my favorites of the day.
Great Rag and Bone sweater for Men
I love this vest!  I plan to wear it all of the time!

My absolute favorite item of the day is this tray!
The quality is outstanding and looks very chic in my living room.

Inspiration

In the last two months, I have three prospective clients ask me about inspiration.  It is a fascinating question, actually.  I don’t have to necessarily go to an event to be inspired (although I was recently, and cannot wait to show you the photos!)  I often get it in the most unexpected places.

I was looking through my latest issue of W and was struck by these fabulous shoes.  They look like vessels (for you feet but also for flowers).  I have always liked the idea of dressing up the vase rather than plain, simple glass.  Can you picture these shoes as vessels?  I can and think they would look perfect in a very specific modern space, like Terzo Piano or the MCA.

Nothing bothers me more than white linens.. unless we’re doing a white wedding.  Can’t you see a linen similar to this gown?  It would be amazing!
(It would also be amazing to actually own this dress.)

Sometimes, I am drawn to a photo or image without a clear direction on why or how I want to use it.  I do adore this photo (can you feel the love between the two of them?) but have been looking at it again and again lately.  I’m not sure why exactly.  The dress is designed by Narcisco Rodriquez, who has a collection coming out next week for Kohl’s. (What is it with the fashion set and Kohl’s?  The store makes me shudder.)
