Future Real Weddings

I promise, more real wedding posts are to come! Until then, check out some recent blog posts by photographers about our brides.

Meredith and Jeremy had a gorgeous wedding at St. Michael’s before heading to what looks to be a fabulous party at the Chicago History Museum. The photographer, Joy Marie, took some fabulous photos that really capture the spirit of the wedding.

Paul Yamashiro did a post about a recent couple, Stephanie and Andy. The couple was married at Forth Presbyterian and then had the celebration at the Art Institute Ballroom. I can’t wait to see the rest of the photos! Until then, read Paul’s post.

Click to Cure 2009

One of my favorite photographers, Dennis Lee, is offering a wonderful opportunity! Get your photo taken by him for a donation.

Sunday, July 12, 2009
10-6PM
Studio 415
415 W. Huron
Chicago

Come in to the studio and I will shoot portraits for a minimum donation of $100 to the Cancer Research Foundation. Bring your family, friends, dogs, cats, whatever. Write a check for a minimum of $100 and I’ll shoot it for you.

This is a first come, first served event. There are no reservation times. Walk in, spend a few moments taking photos and leave with a disc of all the images. This won’t be a full session. Rather, he will shoot maybe 10 minutes, but he’lI shoot fast; and you’ll get a nice selection of images. This is to raise money for cancer and help support an important cause. Come and support a great cause.

PS. Be sure to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Dennis.

Must Take List

Have you heard about a must-take list?  It’s a list that many brides provide to their photographer of photos that they want shot on their wedding day.  If you are looking for a list, here is a great source.

However, most photojournalists don’t use such a list.  They rather just shoot in the moment. (Besides, if you are paying a professional, they should know to take a photo of the cake cutting!)

Regardless of the photographer, it is important to provide them a list of important shots.  For example, my husband was wearing the first gift that I ever gave to him, cufflinks.  We both wanted to get a photo to remember that special detail.
It is really important to provide your photographer a list of the portraits you want taken.  This is easily one of the top ways that can make a wedding start to run behind schedule. I simply like a list like this:
  • Bride and Groom
  • Bride and Groom, Mother of the Bride (Liz) , Stepfather of the Bride (Brad)
  • Bride and Groom, Steve, Susan
  • Bride and Groom, Steve, Susan, Nick
Always list the name of the person.  Then, have the Best Man or Maid of Honor get people up there for the photos.  It is an easy task to delegate.

Planning for Engagement Pictures

As much as I wanted engagement pictures, we waited to add them to our package until we had a better sense of our budget. (I was really worried about going over budget!) Luckily, we can afford them. I’m thrilled because I think the pictures will be a great practice for the wedding day.

The engagement sessions package with our photographer includes a guest book for us to use at the wedding. As with our wedding photos, we will have full rights to them.

Here are some of my favorite engagement pics:

Knottie AlmostMrsGraf and her DH look so in love in this picture!

This is such a romantic picture! And I love black and white!

I love the couple silhouettes are so dark and how it contrasts with the urban landscape.

Another great city shot! I would prefer to have a non-kissing photo though.

Knottie ChiMonique looks adorable with her FI in this picture. I love it!

Really great photo but it won’t work for us. I hate dirt, sand, water, etc. I know– I’m prissy!

Planning for the pictures was a lot more work than I had expected. Here are the steps that need to be done:

  1. Set the date. This Sunday!
  2. Check out the weather. It is supposed to be in the mid-60s and partly cloudy. 20% chance of rain. Fingers are crossed.
  3. Choose locations with photographer. Our photographer suggested Grant Park. We are also going to some places that are meaningful to us as a couple: 175 W. Jackson, Starbucks, & the el.
  4. Choose/ buy attire. Neither me or my FI are the type to wear jeans. We are debating between wearing business casual attire or something a little more dressy. We’ve considered getting really dressed up but we don’t want to look stuffy.
  5. Practice beforehand. The things that I make my poor FI do! I want to make sure that he is really comfortable in front the camera.
  6. Schedule a make-up artist. I am using a gift certifcate that I have for a free make-up session at Endo Exo.
  7. Schedule a blow out. I’m hoping to find somewhere cheap. Suggestions?
  8. Get a manicure and pedicue. Cute nails are a must for photos that are going to be on display at our wedding!
  9. Lose 3lb. I know it is only 3 lb but I will feel so much better about myself if I am in my happy weight range.
  10. Buy an umbrella. Even if it doesn’t rain, an umbrella can be a great prop. I am hoping to find one with polka dots!

Am I forgetting anything???
